Helping Vulnerable Children to Learn
A series of separate but linked training days offered by The Caspari Foundation
Aims
· To
broaden and deepen awareness and
understanding of the social and
emotional factors affecting learning
and behaviour
· To
extend the repertoire of teaching
responses by developing insight
into the meaning of behaviour and
responses to learning
· To
focus on appropriate educational
responses in relation to the task
· To
develop therapeutic practice within
the classroom and the curriculum
· To develop
reflective practice and an enhanced supportive ethos
within the staff group and across
interdisciplinary boundaries.
Content:
A series of day courses which can be used separately or linked and each include:
· Theoretical
seminars providing insight into children’s emotions
and behaviour
· Intervention
strategies facilitating therapeutic teaching
· Work
discussion sessions based on member’s practice and
experience with children, facilitating reflective thinking
about children’s difficulties in school settings
· Reading
seminars based on related papers and books linking emotional
difficulties and learning.
· Each
course member will be asked to
identify a child with whom they
are working and who will be ‘held
in mind’ during the course. Before and after profiles will
be completed in order to help the
course member to reflect upon the
effects of the course on their practice
and on outcomes for the child in
focus.
