Therapy sessions

Individual educational psychotherapy sessions can help schools with children who have a wide range of behavioural and learning difficulties. They combine teaching with a chance for children to explore and make sense of painful or traumatic experiences which might get in the way of learning and social or emotional development.

Whether you work with children who just need time to adjust to classroom rules and routines, or those with more disruptive forms of behaviour Caspari Foundation can help.

Educational psychotherapy can help with a wide range of problems experienced by children and young people from all walks of life, and at different points in their lives. They may have experienced the death of a parent or other family member, they may have witnessed a violent or traumatic event or they may bring with them negative experiences of school or teachers. They may feel that they are to blame for all the bad things that happen to them and their families. With our help school staff can get on with teaching, while we support children and young people to cope with these experiences.

We help staff in a growing number of schools to identify difficulties before they reach crisis point, supporting pupils who are struggling and helping families to access the support they need.

We help schools to work towards key objectives such as improving attendance and the well-being of children in their care.

After an initial consultation we work with schools to agree a support package that is right for the child and the school, with agreed target outcomes against which we benchmark progress. Sessions usually take place at weekly intervals, once per week during term-times at our specially adapted premises in Hackney, London N1. Children and young people meet with the therapist for 50 minutes each session, typically over two to five terms, longer if needed.

We work closely with school staff in order that they can provide further support in the classroom. Where appropriate we offer support to parent/carers who need additional help in thinking about their child’s needs.
