This course is suitable for teachers, educational psychologists, learning mentors, nurture group practitioners and others working with children.

Entry requirements

·  A minimum of two years teaching experience, or a minimum of two years experience in a relevant profession (e.g. social work), following appropriate training (a Level 6 / degree qualification or above);

·   Personal suitability

The Advanced Diploma in Educational Psychotherapy

Course outline

The Advanced Diploma in Educational Psychotherapy is grounded in psychoanalytic and Attachment theory. Trainees develop a high level of understanding of children and young people’s emotional, social and mental health needs. Trainees develop their therapeutic skills working with children and young people through this rigourous and unique clinical training.

The programme covers:

Caspari Therapeutic Teaching Intervention 

Attachment Theory

All major psychoanalytic thinkers and their theories
Educational Psychotherapeutic concepts
Infant and nursery observations
Systemic and psychoanalytic theories about families and schools
Mental Health Familiarisation

Multi-Disciplinary Team working
Work discussion and clinical case seminars

SEN in schools

Identifying and helping children with reading, writing and maths

Working with parents

 

Course fees 2024/25

Course Fees: £4397 per annum

Additional expected expenditure:

Weekly personal psychotherapy: estimated £1300 - £2250 per annum

paid directly to your psychotherapist

Weekly supervision sessions: estimated £900 - £1500 per annum

paid directly to your supervisor (from year two onwards - term time only)

Four year part-time course

Thursday evenings: 6:00pm – 9.15pm term time

Saturdays - 1 in Year 1, with 6-7 in Years 2-4 

NB: Year 1 is delivered online, except 1 x Saturday per year. 

Years 2-4 is delivered in person at our training venue in Hackney, London. 

Weekly personal  psychotherapy- contact Course Director for our criteria

One-to-one clinical supervision sessions provided by Caspari trained supervisors

Weekly infant/nursery observations Year 2 onwards

Clinical placements in Year 2 onwards (one day per week in school)

Trainees are required to complete a total of 450 supervised clinical hours.

Course qualification

Advanced Diploma in Educational Psychotherapy

140 Credits at FHEQ Level 7
Accredited by the UKCP

Leading to full clinical membership of the UKCP as an Educational Psychotherapist  (Child Psychotherapist)

International qualifications

We accept a wide range of international qualifications. Please discuss your qualifications with the Course Director.

If English isn’t your first language, you will need an IELTS score (or equivalent English language qualification) of 6.5.

 Educational Psychotherapy 5-day challenge Spring term 2024

Course Director, Lynsey Daniels, will guide you on a 5-day introductory journey using techniques from Educational Psychotherapy with your students. 
Daily live workshops invite you to bring your specific context and questions and everyone will be implementing and receiving feedback on the activities throughout the week.

Career prospects

Many graduates go on to work in schools and CAMHS providing one-to-one Educational Psychotherapy to children and young people.

 

Several of our alumni have set up their own organisations and private practices helping children and schools to access Educational Psychotherapy.  Some alumni have gone on to become published authors.
